The City of Angleton was only six years old when First Presbyterian Church was organized by the Rev. H.R. Byers in December 1896 with only 15 charter members. During the early years of Angleton, all surrounding churches worked closely together. Meetings were often held in public schools and nearby churches.
On January 13, 1902, the congregation met at the residence of Dr. Joseph Greer and decided to build the First Presbyterian Church of Angleton under the direction of Rev. G.W. Story. After the congregation had their new building, sharing was still a priority. In 1828, a Sunday School annex and kitchen was added to the existing building. In the 1940's, Mr. F.K. Stevens designs and built a Fellowship Hall complete with a kitchen, stage, and more restrooms. In 1954, FPC was rapidly expanding and more space was needed, so a new sanctuary was built.
As time passed, the mission of the church grew steadily. In 1918, the first resident pastor Rev. C.C. Beam divided his time between serving Freeport, Angleton, and nearby areas. Soon after World War II, there was an influx of attendants that called for an expansion in 1954. Since then, FPC chartered Troop 13 of Boy Scouts of America, which continues on today.
